Good Morning “Confident The Lord Is Just.” Today we are in Psalm 52.
Today’s Psalm is in response to a specific event in which extreme ruthless evil was displayed. Here’s a quick summary:
David was fleeing from King Saul. He goes to Ahimelek the Priest who gives him and his men some of the old “consecrated bread”, to eat. He also gives him Goliaths sword.
“Now one of Saul’s servants was there that day, detained before the Lord; he was Doeg the Edomite, Saul’s chief shepherd.” 1 Samuel 21:7 NIV
You can imagine what happens next. Doeg runs back to Saul to tell him what Ahimelek had done. Saul orders some of his men to kill Ahimelek and his sons, but none of the Jews were about to raise a hand against a Jewish Priest. So, he turns to Doeg who was a Gentile.
“The king then ordered Doeg, “You turn and strike down the priests.” So Doeg the Edomite turned and struck them down. That day he killed eighty-five men who wore the linen ephod.” 1 Samuel 22:18 NIV
85 Priests! Imagine the horror! Through Psalm 52 David condemns Doeg’s evil actions and clings to Gods faithfulness. You might want to further review 1 Samuel 21-22.
We see some unimaginable horrific things in our society. The systematic destruction of millions of unborn children for instance. Or Christian’s currently being slaughtered in Syria; moms dads, and children. Unimaginably horrific things continue and evil men seem to go unpunished. Sometimes all we have to cling to is Gods faithfulness. He is FAITHFUL! He sees ALL, and justice will be served!
“…Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” Romans 12:19 ESV
Love you all! Dig in!
