Psalm 54

Good Morning “Victorious By The Word!”  Today we are in Psalm 54.

David was faithful in the midst of trouble.  He indeed gave God the Glory for his protection and victories.  He called upon God to judge his enemies recognizing God is Perfect Justice.  This Psalm is interesting though… because like others, it refers to specific past events.  “When the Ziphites had gone to Saul and said, “Is not David hiding among us?”

Check out 1 Samuel 23:14-19, and 1 Samuel 26:1.  Twice the Ziphites, Davids own tribesman, his people - betrayed him.  Presumably to gain favor with the king, they blew the whistle on his location - promising to hand David over to Saul.  Obviously they anticipated David’s resulting death.  Notice this however; with both occurrences God allowed David to escape, and in so doing ultimately placed Saul in David’s hands.  God turned the tables… giving David opportunity to take or spare Saul’s life.

Despite the best efforts of evil men, God was always in control.  BOTH of His anointed kings were in His sovereign grasp, even while one was trying to kill the other.

God is the Sovereign Judge, and His Word is the scale by which all are weighed.  It was by the Word that David prevailed.  It is by The Word Jesus that ultimately we will prevail (John 1:1-18).  We are victorious over sin and death, not because of anything we have done but because of Jesus (2 Timothy 1:9).

Love you all!  Dig in!
