Good Morning “If You Know You Know.” Today we are in Psalm 31.
Jesus made 7 statements while hanging on The Cross suffering for you and me. They were, in order, loosely phrased here:
1) “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they’re doing,” Luke 23:34 (I believe this comment was directed not just at the Romans but at all sinners - us.)
2) To the thief next to Him on the cross, “Today, you will be with Me in paradise,” Luke 23:43
3) To His mother (referring to John the disciple’s new responsibility of taking care of Jesus’ mother): “Woman, here is your son, son here is your mother,” John 19:26-27
4) To the Father, “Why have You forsaken Me” Matthew 27:46 (quoting Psalm 22),
5) “I am thirsty” John 19:28 (also quoting Psalm 22),
6) “It is finished” John 19:30 (The sin debt of the world had been fully paid for, God’s requirement had been satisfied),
7) And finally, today’s Psalm is quoted, “Into Your hand, I commit My Spirit.” Luke 23:44-46 (Psalm 31:5)
Those that truly knew Scripture recognized that Jesus was not spouting random statements from The Cross… He was fulfilling prophecy. He knew that those who knew would know and further recognize He was who He said He was. They would recognize His statements as just a piece of larger declarations. Jesus was the originator of internet Acronym IYKYK. (If You Know You Know)
He presumed that we would recognize the deeper meaning because we all would be obediently meditating on His Word daily. Therefore; when we hear Jesus Words on The Cross, “Into Your hands I commit my Spirit”, we automatically remember the rest of David’s words in Psalm 31. “Deliver me Lord my Faithful God”. His Words would bring to mind so much more. IYKYK… do you know?
Love you all! Dig in!
