Psalm 10

Good Morning “Always Room for God.”  Today we are in Psalm 10.

As we read Psalm 10, it’s easy to drift to the “most evil”, in our world.  Given our experience with disaster relief, my mind instantly jumped to some of our past experiences.  “Storm Chasers”, who swoop in and take advantage.  Not the storm chasers that follow the storms to collect weather data,  but contractors who chase storms knowing it will leave devastation in its path - and seeking to capitalize.

Truly there are some well meaning, fairly priced contractors who are simply seeking work to provide for their families.  They  may even have a heart to help.  However; in our mission experience we’ve heard of way more of the other.  Most of the people we’ve been blessed to help, have been taken advantage of some way or another.  “Contractors” (thieves) swoop in, promise immediate help, charge 3, 4 and even 10 times the market rate for work, require a 50% deposit - then never return.   It happens more than you can imagine.  Exploiting, then capitalizing on the misfortune of others… uggghhh tools for the evil one.

“In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises.” Psalms‬ ‭10‬:‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

As I read this Psalm with my mind venturing into the place I described, The Spirit whispered… “This is for you too.”  What?  I never!  I’m not wicked… I always leave room for God… or do I?

At times, I must admit I “back burner” God.  I put other things before Him.  My thoughts become so filled with the concerns of the day, even ministry itself - that I really leave little room for communion with Him.

“In his pride the wicked man does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God. His ways are always prosperous...”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭10‬:‭4‬-‭5‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Maybe I’m not alone?

He ought to consume our thoughts constantly.  I’m not saying that we put off our responsibilities… those are God given and ordained as well.  I  am saying we see everything, filter everything, process everything through Him, while remaining in constant consciousness of His presence in our lives.  Rather if we’re properly dialed in with Him, it becomes Him living through us.  1 Thessalonians 6:17 tells us to “Pray without ceasing”, or some versions say “Pray continually.”

It’s the Holy Spirit in us, the filter of His Righteousness, Him living through us… that keeps us on track.

Matthew 6:19-20, 33
