Good Morning “God Glorifiers”. Today we are in Psalm 4.
What does it mean to be a child of God? A follower of Jesus? A TRUE Christian? It’s a real question. Is a “Christian” someone who goes to church every Sunday… maybe shows up at a mid week service? Maybe a true follower is someone who goes to, or even teaches a Bible Study? Are those things, or any “things” for that matter, what makes us true followers of Jesus? (Isaiah 64:6)
As the days go on, and the world becomes more tolerant - so do we. Collectively, generally speaking we are totally accepting of our own sin, and the sin in others… and are confused by those who aren’t. I increasingly find myself in conversations with “believers” in which I end up trying to explain and defend plainly stated parts of The Word of God, and Gods expectations of us.
Our world accepts all things, true or not. Truth, logic, the concept that sin is destructive and leads to death (James 1:14-15) - these things are all but gone. We consume and apply false ideas and even false theologies with an insatiable hunger. Review Romans 1:18-32… and see if you don’t find It to be a description of us. Paul finishes the passage with “…they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.” Romans 1:32 NIV
Generally speaking we’ve pretty much become ok with everything in that chapter; but Gods Word, and Its Truths, THAT… we want to argue.
What should we strive for in ourselves? What should we look to encourage, and hold our fellow Christians, and our own children to?
“I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy.”
Leviticus 11:44 NIV
“As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do;”
1 Peter 1:14-15 NIV
“How long will you people turn my glory into shame? How long will you love delusions and seek false gods? Know that the Lord has set apart his faithful servant for himself; the Lord hears when I call to him.” Psalms 4:2-3 NIV
It cannot be more plainly stated! When Hebrews 10:24 says let us consider how we can spur one another on… THIS is what it is referring to. When Romans 12:2 says “Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world…” Holiness is what Paul’s imploring.
What defines a TRUE Follower of Jesus? “Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.”
1 John 2:5-6 NIV
We ought long for Holiness and desire it for those we are close to. Love doesn’t allow for conformity to sin - which is harmful unto death. Our attitudes, hearts and actions toward both ourself and those around us - either GLORIFY Him or DISHONOR Him. There’s no room for in between. Where is your attitude today?
Love you all! Dig in!
