Good Morning “Thirsty”. Today we are in Psalm 42.
These days our we hardly leave the house without our water bottle. It sits on our desk in class or our office. When we get ready to pull permits to build a new home, we must prove we have water. Either a water tap, or a well permit is required. When we go camping, water is always of chief concern. When we travel to a foreign country we always make sure we have a source for clean drinkable water. It’s one of the greatest acts of love missionaries can provide for those they minister to… clean water. Universally we ALL know we HAVE to have it!
We get it. Have you ever been so thirsty, so dehydrated it scared you? Muscles begin to cramp, you don’t think straight, confusion sets in, dizziness, vision gets blurry… your mouth is so dry death actually enters your thinking? I’ve been there. Needing water is the close kin to needing air! About 3 days without water and we’re dead! The body has no way to store water so we need a fresh supply every day. Our body tells us so!
This is what the Psalmist is referring to in today’s Psalm.
Like the dear whose life depends on finding a spring or stream of water - his soul longs for, thirsts for God. “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” Psalms 42:1-2 NIV
In this context it does not appear he’s longing for forgiveness, or provision, or deliverance from his enemies… no, he simply longs to be in Gods presence. Universally we ALL know we need Him! It’s the way God designed us. Truth is we NEED Him daily, just as much as water or air. Without Jesus and The Truth of His Word, confusion sets in, blurry vision to see correctly the things around us, decreased appropriate function and production… ultimately death!
(Matthew 7:13-14)
Many spend their days pushing Him, the very thing we NEED most away. Seems crazy doesn’t it?
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Matthew 5:6 NIV
Love you all! Dig in!
