Good Morning “Firm Foundation Builders.” Today we are in Psalm 11.
David describes the pursuit of his enemies from the shadows. Truly trying times for David. The evil one is relentless in His pursuit to destroy what God is doing through His people. We have a target on our back with the most dangerous creature known to man aiming for it (1 Peter 5:8).
David knew God was the source of his strength and defense. “In The Lord I find refuge.” Psalm 1
He was David’s Rock and The Source of his strong Foundation.
Receiving Jesus payment on The Cross is the beginning. Repentance - turning away from our sin is evidence there is a real transformation happening (Romans 10:9). We continue to grow in Him only through The Word of God taught by The Spirit of God. That alone brings strength (Joshua 1:8). Our relationship with The Lord through Jesus, and the study of His Word should be our greatest concern. As we press in, and grow to know Him deeper, our foundation in Him is strengthened.
“So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who relies on it will never be stricken with panic.”
Isaiah 28:16 NIV
“Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” Psalm 62:2
Check out Jesus’ Words:
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24-25 NIV
But what happens when there is no foundation, or that foundation begins to crumble for lack of intentionality, or priority?
“When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?”” Psalms 11:3 NIV
It’s a rhetorical question. David knew the righteous (Believers) can do NOTHING apart from God.
So did Jesus:
“But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” Matthew 7:26-27 NIV
Also check John 15:5.
Our “good morals”, our “good intentions” mean little alone. If they’re truly good then we must prioritize our relationship with Him through His Word. Apart from that we got NOTHING. The evil one has a clear shot at the target on our back with no defense. We’re like sitting ducks, fish in a barrel, easy pickings.
Love you all! Dig in.
