Good Morning “Only Justified by Jesus”. Today we are in Job 40.
God continues questioning Job, and it’s not pretty. In our questioning of what God does and doesn’t do, we position ourselves over Him as judge. We would never say or admit that, but that’s what’s happening. If we believe God is in sovereign control of all things then to question that is to assume He is doing something wrong. That’s accusation. He straight up says that’s what Job is doing.
“Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!”
“Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. “Would you discredit my justice? Would you condemn me to justify yourself?”
Job 40:2, 7-8 NIV
In our accusing, we discredit His Holy Perfection - His Justice. We imply there are areas He is unjust… in so doing we attempt to bring God down to our level of fallibility. His righteousness appears diminished and we are exalted. You see our sinfulness doesn’t seem so bad if God isn’t so good. God is checking Job up - for attempting to justify himself by discrediting God.
We unconsciously do it with each other constantly. “I’m no where near as bad as that guy.” See if I can believe he’s THAT bad, then I seem pretty good. Self justification. But it changes nothing - it’s smoke and mirrors.
I bet you never thought of questioning God in that way before? Face it, we’re all messed up and apart from Jesus we have NO hope.
Truth is, we are absolutely incapable of justifying (counting righteous) ourselves. Oh we can try, and many do - on the merits of their “good works”.
“All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.”
Isaiah 64:6 NIV
There is nothing we can do good enough. It’s only by Gods Grace - through Jesus that we can be declared righteous and saved from our sin (Ephesians 2:8-9)
“know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.” Galatians 2:16 NIV
Love you all! Dig in! Trust Him, for EVERYTHING, including your justification.
