Psalm 17

Good Morning “Solid as a Rock”.  Today we are in Psalm 17.

“Let my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right. Though you probe my heart, though you examine me at night and test me, you will find that I have planned no evil; my mouth has not transgressed.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭17‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

David’s heart in this Psalm is clean - at least he believes it to be.  David was not without sin, we know that.  In fact other Psalms of David reflect on his incredible brokenness and repentance Psalm 51 for example.  Here, in today’s Psalm, despite the sin that brought David to this point in the first place - he now believes himself to be blameless.  We have to assume the same based on the text.

When we receive Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit washes us clean, and then comes and takes up residence in us (1 John 1:9, Titus 3:5).  He guides and leads us into all Truth by Gods Word (John 16:13).

What does that mean, how does that work?  It’s simple really.  When we sin, The Holy Spirit reminds us of Gods Truth (John 16:7-8).  The Truth of Gods Word, in contrast with our sin is convicting.  We call that process and the feeling we feel - conviction.  It stinks, frankly.  No one enjoys being shown their error.  No one likes living with that feeling.  So what do we do?
2 choices really…

- Many choose to suppress The Truth, written on their hearts, The Truth they have just been reminded of.  They surround themselves with people who will also say “it’s ok” (birds of a feather…).  They may even seek out alternative teachers who will say it’s ok - despite The Truth of The Word of God (2 Timothy 4:3). We see the consequence of that choice spelled out clearly in Romans 1:18-  Talk about dangerous and destructive (Isaiah 5:20-21).

- Or… some choose a more narrow path (Matthew 7:13-14).  They allow The Word of God, illuminated by The Holy Spirit to soak in.  The heed it, repent from their sin, and allow it to change them (Romans 12:2, James 1:23).  This was David.  He sinned hard!  But when he repented, he repented hard.  It was REAL!

How do you deal with The Truth of Gods Word?  Do you willingly accept it and allow it to change you, or reject it because it doesn’t fit with the desires of your flesh.  Ouch… I know.  It’s a tough question but it’s very real.

Love you all!  Dig in!
