Good Morning “Anxiously Awaiting.” Today we are in Isaiah 18.
Let’s review what we’ve learned from Isaiah’s prophecies regarding Gods pending judgment on the nations that oppose Israel:
- Babylon was a message of how the enemy and his forces go
down in flames, but Israel rises from the ashes
- Philistines taught that the throne of David will rise again, even if
it appears to have faded, and it will crush all opposition
- Moab taught that the Lord will offer refuge to a small remnant of
Israel’s enemies (gentiles), who will be sheltered in Israel’s
shadow and share in her kingdom. If God is willing to offer mercy for some gentiles, He is
equally willing to hold Israel accountable and will bring
judgment against Ephraim
Now we look at Cush, which is the ancient name for the land of Ethiopia. (Psalm 69:31 uses the same Hebrew Word). Within this prophecy of Gods judgment on Cush resides something more.
“All you people of the world, you who live on the earth, when a banner is raised on the mountains, you will see it, and when a trumpet sounds, you will hear it.” Isaiah 18:3 NIV
“ALL you people of the world”, “will see it”, “you will hear it” - is a clue we are talking about a big moment in history here - really big. What moment? Go ahead, dig into Zechariah 14:5-9, Revelation 19:11-14 and see. Isaiah is going deeper here - way deeper.
We know grape vines and fig trees are often used to describe Israel. So then, in this time, Israel is thriving - blooming (Matthew 24:32-33).
Suddenly when, Israel is not expecting it, (“before harvest” vs 5) the shoots are cut off, and the branches cut down (Matthew 24:36-39). All summer the birds and wild animals will feed on them.
Within Gods prophecy through Isaiah is the promise of Jesus’ 2nd coming. The time in which He will judge the nations (Revelation 19:15-21). This will be a horrific time, yet one in which wrongs will be set right! God is patient… (2 Peter 3:9), but His Holy Justice demands a reckoning.
Jesus already paid the penalty for it all. The beauty is, we can receive His payment, repent of our sin and enjoy relationship with Him that ensures our Salvation from both this Hell on earth and for eternity. The offer includes meeting Jesus in the air rather than waiting until he comes down on The Mountain 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). Or… well you can do the math.
Love you all! Dig in!
