Good Morning “Clinging to Eternal Hope.” Today we are in Job 30.
Job continues his most hopeless lament. Our hearts can’t help but break for him. Despite knowing that Job, like us, deserves whatever God chooses to bring upon us. We like Job have earned it by our sin (Romans 3:23).
Only one has ever been sinless - Jesus. “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” Isaiah 53:6.
God stopped short with Job who was deserving of whatever God brought upon Him… but He did NOT stop short with Jesus. Don’t think for a second Jesus struggle was easy - He was fully man. In fact He too cried out on the Cross - almost echoing Jobs words.
“About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).”
Matthew 27:46 NIV
Why?” He knew Gods plan. Why the cry? He knew His role in the salvation of mankind at that point, and went to The Cross joyfully (Hebrews 12:1-2).
As He hung there paying the debt that was ours, He also demonstrated the cry of anyone who dies apart from Jesus atonement. When we analyze the Psalm Jesus quoted at that moment, we recognize His cry was also a song of hope, of enduring to the end. It was a hope based on the testimony of God’s Word concerning His faithfulness to those who love Him. Check out Psalm 22:1-5 then join me in thanking and praising God that He can be trusted! We can fall into His arms knowing that He settled our debt by the blood of Jesus, not because we were in anyway worthy but because Jesus was!
Love you all! Dig in!
