Psalm 59

Good Morning “Worshipers of The Way-Maker.”  Today we are in Psalm 59.

Today’s Psalm of David finds its roots in 1 Samuel 19:10-16.  David has narrowly escaped Saul’s spear and retreats to his home.  Saul sends men to watch his house and kill him the next morning.  To catch the irony of the next part we have to go back to 1 Samuel 18:20.  Saul gave his daughter Michal to David as a snare… in hopes she would trip him up.  How would she trip him up? Michal was an idolater, she worshiped idols… David was well known for getting his strength from The Lord.

How do we know she worshiped idols… well back to our story in 1 Sam 19.  She knows her dads men are after David, encourages him to flee, lowers him down through a window and… “Then Michal took an idol and laid it on the bed, covering it with a garment and putting some goats’ hair at the head.” 1 Samuel‬ ‭19‬:‭13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

She apparently had an idol large enough to pass as David.  When Saul’s men come into David’s room to capture him, and take him to Saul all of this is discovered.  God worked through the very reason Saul gave Michal to David in the first place (her idolatry) - to preserve David’s life.  God used “the snare” Saul intended as a tool for David’s protection.  Ha ha… I’m telling you, you can’t make this stuff up!  Our God is that amazing!

He makes a way when there appears to be no way (Isaiah 43:16-19).  In fact He’s working in, around, and through ALL things to bring about His good work, before we even realize there is a problem.

Hence David, and we also can proclaim:

“I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble. You are my strength, I sing praise to you; you, God, are my fortress, my God on whom I can rely. Psalms‬ ‭59‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Love you all!  Dig in!
