Psalm 78

Good Morning “Historians.”  Today we are in Psalm 78.

Yesterday we remembered to remember.   Psalm 78 continues with a Maskil of Asaph, a contemplation, a remembrance.  Asaph is summarizing Israel’s history of obedience, rebellion and repentance, deliverance and restoration… then more rebellion.  It appears his intent is simple… do this and don’t do this!  Learn from those who both did it right and count the cost of doing it wrong.

Knowing our history and the history of Gods people is essential.  It has been said that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it.  We must know The Word of God, live it and teach it.

Asaph is reminding his hearers that the prosperity of God’s people depends upon them knowing God’s “teaching/instruction” and imparting that to the next generation.  In fact, on the day the Law / Torah was given, it came with instructions for how God’s people should pursue His Word day-to-day (Deuteronomy 6:6-7)

We ought learn from the mistakes of those who came before us, repeating them is just ridiculous.  Turn from Gods Word and things fall apart!  Simple!

When we remember God’s faithfulness, as articulated in His Word, we are more likely to faithfully trust Him in our generation. When we are warned of the consequences of unfaithfulness in the Bible, we ought learn to stay away from those same sinful scenarios.  Likewise, our children learn as they watch our faithful example: faith, building upon faith, from generation to generation (2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Love you all!  Dig in!
