Good Morning “Those After Gods Own Heart.” Today we are in Psalm 51.
“…God testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart;…”
Acts 13:22 NIV
God did not refer to David as such because he was perfect. No, far from it. To understand today’s Psalm in proper context one must first go back and review 2 Samuel 12:7-15. David blew it… in more ways than one.
How could God forgive such a man. How could God extend mercy? David was after Gods own heart… what does that even mean? It means despite his sin, despite his brokenness, in his heart - he wanted what God wanted!
Like David, we are sinful from conception (Psalm 51:5), having inherited our sin nature from our fathers who ultimately inherited theirs from Adam (Romans 5:12-14).
The question is, in our sin, how do we respond? Do we fall to our face like David as we see in this Psalm? Do we agree with God on all counts including those that would consequently bring about our righteous judgment? Or, do we shrug our shoulders at our sin, seared by its repetition and hardened to conviction by The Holy Spirit (Romans 1:18 -).
The one after Gods own heart finds forgiveness and mercy as David did. Oh sin’s consequences may remain for the purpose of learning but life is preserved through Jesus (Romans 5:15-19).
This Psalm paints an amazing picture of it all! I hope you glean a taste of David’s heart here.
Love you all! Dig in!
