Psalm 80

Good Morning “Vine Dependents”.  Today we are in Psalm 80.

The imagery of the Vine and the branches is something we are all probably familiar with.  I also reference it often with the youth.

In this Psalm Asaph compares the nation of Israel to a vine.  The vine once flourished when God was the caretaker, but when Israel turned Her back on God and severed herself from the vine She embraced her flesh, sinned and withered.  Don’t we do the same thing?  We tend to seek God passionately when we are in a repentance cycle, or start a new endeavor or period of our lives, but once our current state becomes the norm, comfort takes over and we tend to slip back.

As God was working to draw Israel back, Asaph sensed Israel may be nearing the point of repentance and pleads with God to save them.  In Asaph’s mind he surely felt their discipline had gone far enough.

Let’s remember God is perfect!  Which means He never wastes an action, a second of discipline, or correction.  We may read Scripture and/or experience His discipline ourselves, and for a second dare to think He’s over the top… ENOUGH Lord I can’t take anymore!  He ALWAYS KNOWS though… exactly what it will take to bring His people to true repentance.

Jesus uses a similar form of imagery in the chapter I refer to often.  Check out John 15.  I encourage you to read it all - it’s all good.

Love you all!  Dig in!
