Good Morning “Redemption Cup Drinkers.” Today we are in Psalm 75.
“In the hand of the Lord is a cup full of foaming wine mixed with spices; he pours it out, and all the wicked of the earth drink it down to its very dregs.” Psalms 75:8 NIV
In Psalm 73 regarding the wicked, we read - “Their mouths lay claim to heaven…”. The level of deception, the arrogance that allows one boldly rebelling against God to claim heaven as their own. Don’t we see that today in the “I live by my own rules and God still accepts me” mentality?
Imagine the day when the wicked are humbled and forced to drink from Gods cup of wrath. They will be be humbled, like a child who is not allowed to get up from the table until he finishes his milk. In due time this day is coming (2 Peter 3:9). Careful as we long for that day… we all by nature are deserving of wrath (Ephesians 2:3).
Perhaps, like me, all this talk of “this cup of wrath” reminds you of Jesus prayer in the garden the night of His arrest. “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
Matthew 26:39 NIV
By His Grace Jesus drank the cup of wrath we deserve. You see we are all wicked, sinful, deserving of wrath (Romans 3:23, 6:23) but by His Grace (Ephesians 2:8-9), Jesus bore all our sin!
We remember His blood poured out, His body broken for our sin as we observe Communion (Matthew 26:26-29). The offer of the cup of redemption through Jesus is real - but we must humbly believe, and receive it. The action that follows demonstrates whether or not our “belief” is real (Romans 12:1-2).
One way or the other we will be humbled (1 Peter 5:6-7, James 4:10). Will we humbly accept the cup of redemption offered through the blood of Jesus, or one day drink the cup of Gods wrath?
Love you all! Dig in!
