Good Morning “Remember-ers” of the good stuff. Today we are in Psalm 77.
Asaph cries out in Psalm 77. At least in the beginning there is anguish… desperation… doubt, wondering if God has turned away. “Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again? Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time?”
Psalms 77:7-8 NIV Perhaps like Asaph, like me, at times you have wondered the same.
Then, a drastic turn. Lament turned to Joy. Doubt turned to Faith. What happened? Why the drastic switch?
“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.” Psalms 77:11 NIV
Asaph remembered to remember. He took note of Gods past faithfulness. Deeds he had to have previously catalogued as credit due to God. Now in his time of need he recounts them. From Gods Word he recounts Gods promises.
“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Romans 10:17 NKJV
When we remember and cling to Gods faithfulness we are more inclined to tell people why we have hope in the midst of need.
“But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,”
1 Peter 3:15 NIV
“These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7 NIV
Leave the next generation and all on-lookers wondering… who is This God that provides such peace? It makes no sense (Philippians 4:6-7).
Love you all! Dig in!
