Isaiah 20

Good Morning “Those Who Know Where to Look For Help.”  Today we are on Isaiah 20.

What do we know about Isaiah?  Honestly not much. Today we learn the depth of his obedience.  Many within the Church Body are willing to serve in those “honored” areas, but fewer are willing to serve in areas no one sees.  Even less yet, are willing to serve in areas that are humbling… even perhaps demeaning.  For instance, it’s easier to find volunteers serve food, or pass the plate - than to clean the toilets.

“…the Lord spoke through Isaiah son of Amoz. He said to him, “Take off the sackcloth from your body and the sandals from your feet.” And he did so, going around stripped and barefoot. Then the Lord said, “Just as my servant Isaiah has gone stripped and barefoot for three years, as a sign and portent against Egypt and Cush,” Isaiah‬ ‭20‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭NIV‬

What?  Did I read that right?  God told Isaiah to strip down and go barefoot?  Then we immediately read, he did so for 3 years! That’s obedience.  Isaiah understood well David’s words in Psalm 84:10 “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked.”
‭‭
And for what purpose?
Isaiahs act was an indication of the type judgement to come for Cush (Ethiopia), and Egypt.  We’ve seen the long term, “End Times”, judgment in store for these nations… and now are about to see their near term judgment.

You see Judah had put her trust in the “strength” of the armies of their enemies… instead of their God.  Humiliation was coming, by Assyria’s hand,  in a way that Judah would remember.

Check out the continuation from verse 3 above “so the king of Assyria will lead away stripped and barefoot the Egyptian captives and Cushite exiles, young and old, with buttocks bared—to Egypt’s shame.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭20‬:‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Judah was reminded of a very important message.  The same message is for us.   “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.” Psalms‬ ‭20‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Love you all!  Dig in!
