Good Morning “Never Envy-ers”. Today we are in Psalm 37.
Ever wonder why the wicked rich just seem to get richer? Why God seems to bless the evil man with all the things we wish we had? If God is for us and against the wicked, why do they seem to get blessed so much as we struggle?
Yup, I said all that out loud. It indeed is a thought that at sometime or another we all surely have thought. David addresses those very questions in today’s Psalm. In fact he tells us to…
“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalms 37:4 NIV
Oh man that’s awesome! How do I delight in The Lord so He’ll give me everything I want? Isn’t that what David said? Kind of… but we missed the most important part that came just before…
“Trust in the Lord and do good;…”Psalms 37:3 NIV
These passages are akin to Jesus’ Words in John 15:7 “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” Focus in on the first part… “If you remain in me and my words remain in you…”.
Trusting in God as David says assumes total submission. As we press into our relationship with Him; as we “remain in Him, and His Words remain in us”, we become aligned with His will! It’s not a matter of being good enough to get our desires… it’s a matter of - as we become more like Him our desires change. Our pleasure and joy comes from righteous things instead of worldly stuff. The wicked are able to accumulate these things because they are empty, meaningless! They’re of no consequence.
Jesus continues explaining the process in John 15. He gives us this “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.”
John 15:11 NIV
Complete Joy! That sounds pretty good! I know I’ve never dealt with “complete joy” from stuff.
Love you all! Dig in!
