Psalm 58

Good Morning “Imprecatory Pray-ers”.  Today we are in Psalm 58.

Anyway you look at it, David is praying imprecatory prayers / curses on the wicked rulers of the people who pervert justice and oppress others. After describing these wicked men, David calls on God to deliver judgment to them.

Is it wrong for us to desire the same from God concerning the wicked we see?

I just saw a report that said “We got the leader of Isis”.  We’ve come to understand that “we got” means Está muerto, he is dead.  Is it wrong for us to celebrate, rejoice in the death of such a man?

Some would say we should never be happy when a wicked person dies… they now have no chance of salvation.  True, but who decides the time of his death?  Only God.
(Psalms‬ ‭139‬:‭16‬)

Furthermore God and only God draws us to salvation (John 6:44).   It is God who works in each person to give the will and then to act according to His good purpose (Philippians 2:13).  Any good at all comes from God.  When God chooses to cut one’s life short, as we would say, it really is not cut short at all - but it’s just the right time.

“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God’s judgement of evil is a good thing! It’s not something that we should be ashamed of (Romans 13:2-4).  God’s demand for justice is an attribute of His character. He takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but it is necessary (Ezekiel 33:11).  It is a pure and right thing to be angry at wickedness and to want to see it eradicated. Part of the way God limits wickedness on earth is through death, by not allowing men to live forever (Proverbs 10:27).  Even in the death of the wicked He is merciful; both to those that were oppressed, but also even to the wicked.  For in their death He cuts off their ability to continue to sin and thereby add even more to their eternal punishment.

He’s is Perfect Justice - Perfect in every way.  We can trust and rejoice in all that He does!

Love you all!  Dig in!
