Psalm 14

Good Morning “Desperate Apart From Jesus.”  Today we are in Psalm 14.

“The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭14‬:‭1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

At the time David wrote this Psalm, humanity was a mess - denying The Truth of God and His existence.  Guess what?  It’s still the same.  I say denying because God has indeed made Himself plainly known to us so that all of mankind is without excuse (Romans 1:18-20).

It is the desires of the flesh that convince a man there is no God.  Once convinced, man is conveniently left to indulge the flesh without acknowledging that there is a standard that must be upheld.  Man is left to spiral out of control, to descend deeper and deeper into sin as the rest of Romans 1 describes.

“The Lord looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. All have turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭14‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Mans depravity is universal.  We all have a sin disease.  “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned—” Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What are we to do?  We are desperate, hopelessly lost… on our own that is.  David at the end of this Psalm gives hope… There  is One coming from Zion.  The Only One that can redeem a desperate and hopeless people - Jesus.

The Prophet Isaiah describes the horror like this:

“Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭53‬:‭4‬-‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“Just as there were many who were appalled at him — his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being and his form marred beyond human likeness—“ Isaiah 52:14

The price for our sin has been paid!  It wasn’t pretty or easy!  It required the ultimate demonstration of His love for us through unimaginable suffering.

Those are facts!  It’s The Truth! Funny thing about The Truth… it never ceases to be true just because we deny or suppress it.  So the question is, how do we choose to live?  Do we scoff at The Truth as do many? Do we acknowledge we serve a Holy God with standards and expectations of His creation, or suppress The Truth and go on living indulging our flesh along the way?  In some measure, at some level, we all have room to grow.

He does the shaping by The Holy Spirit using The Word of God.  Our expectation is to dive into The Word, press in to Him, and thus participate in the process (Isaiah 64:8, Philippians 1:6, Joshua 1:8, Romans 12:1-2)

Love you all!  Dig in!
