Good Morning “Those Who Are Certain.” Today we are in Psalm 49.
Perhaps you’ve heard…
“Nothing is certain except death and taxes” - Benjamin Franklin, 1789.
Well, our new administration has tossed around the idea of eliminating taxes so - maybe Ben was wrong? Perhaps… but only on one point!
“…death is the destiny of everyone…” therefore; “the living should take this to heart.” Ecclesiastes 7:2
King Solomon, the wisest man that ever lived, understood that death was our destiny. Thus, we should take that truth to heart and live accordingly. In fact he makes the assertion that the day of death is actually better than the day of birth (Ecclesiastes 7:1-2).
Solomon’s statement assumes we give our lives to, and live our lives for The LORD. (Romans 12:1-2). Then the day of our death will actually, only be the beginning of eternal life in paradise. In fact The True Believer will not see death itself. (John 8:51, John 14:1-6). Conversely the one who lives their life for themselves, focusing only on the here and now, will NOT experience eternal life in Christ Jesus (Romans 6:23).
The Sons of Korah explore this very topic in today’s Psalm. Many live their lives striving and accumulating as if this 18, 70, 80, or 100 years is all there is. This life is just a blink of an eye, a vapor - here today and gone tomorrow (James 4:14). It’s difficult for us to imagine eternity. We really have nothing to compare FOREVER to. Imagine all the sand on all the seashores of the world. Pick one grain and consider it your life here on earth… the rest of the sand STILL pales in comparison to eternity. Crazy to think we would live our lives only for the single grain…
The reality is, we are all immortal beings… we WILL live FOREVER. Not physically to be sure, but spiritually. The beauty of Gods Grace is that we get to choose where and how. (Romans 3:23, 6:23, 5:8, 10:9, 8:1, Matthew 6:19-21)
Love you all! Dig in!
