Psalm 56

Good Morning “Those With Tears Bottled.”  Today we are in Psalm 56.

Another of David’s Psalms - When the Philistines seized him in Gath.

Scripture only records one instance when David was at the mercy of the Philistine King in Gath.  “That day David fled from Saul and went to Achish king of Gath.” 1 Samuel‬ ‭21‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

As David is running for his life God uses King Achish of Gath to offer protection.  You can review the story in 1 Samuel 21:10-14.  Why is this so significant?  You may recall another story about David and a man from Gath. “A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span.”
‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭17‬:‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬. Freshen up on the rest of the story in 1 Samuel 17.

Suffice it to say, David was not favored in Gath - so why go there?  The same God that cares enough to bottle our tears… (“You have taken account of my wanderings; Put my tears in Your bottle. Are they not in Your book?” Psalms‬ ‭56‬:‭8‬) is capable of protecting us - EVEN in the midst of our enemies.

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;….”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭23‬:‭4‬-‭5‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

What can we learn here?  How does David get his fear under control - “In God, whose word I praise, in the Lord, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can man do to me?” Psalms‬ ‭56‬:‭10‬-‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

He recognizes no man, even his enemies can do anything to him when he’s aligned with God (Roman’s 8:35-39, 1 John 4:3-4).

Love you all!  Dig in!
