Good Morning “Safety Seekers”. Today we are in Psalm 34.
Are you safe? Are you well protected? It’s a question that often surfaces with us as Americans. In fact safety is BIG business. Many “safety” industries generate tens of billions of revenue dollars annually. The National Environmental Health and Safety Administration alone is a 24 billion dollar a year enterprise.
We are safety nuts honestly… stop and think: Occupational Safety, Public Safety, Air Travel Safety, Sea Travel Safety, , Highway Safety, Transportation Safety, Department of Homeland Security… The government literally has a department or administration for every kind of safety you can imagine. School Safety, Playground Safety, Pool Safety,… Even more personally we may consider home protection, security systems, personal protection, fall protection, safe driving practices, seat belts, helmets, automotive safety features… what are the safest toys, tools, tv programs, what is safe for us, for our children, our pets, is it safe to go outside, is it harmful to stay inside…. I could go on all day really.
Im not poking fun at any of it, it’s quite serious actually. Im simply pointing out that much of our concern in life circles around self preservation - safety. We painstakingly attempt to create “safe” situations, and a “safe” environment. David understood personal safety and protection also. Check out his personal protection plan…
“I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”
Psalms 34:4 NIV
“The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.”
Psalms 34:7 NIV
“The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all; he protects all his bones, not one of them will be broken.”
Psalms 34:19-20 NIV
Pay close attention to the end of that passage… sound familiar. 10 extra points if you can draw the connection there.
We do our best to protect our families and our people as good stewards of all God has blessed us with. However, dare I say much of it only provides a false sense of security. Don’t get me wrong, it’s wise to consider safer practices. However, all of that is fruitless if we are not dialed in with the one who TRULY holds it ALL and is our ONLY TRUE protection in this life and the next. If we are THIS concerned with temporal safety and security … shouldn’t we be even more concerned about our eternal security? Jesus is head of the Eternal Security Administration.
Love you all! Dig in!
