Good Morning “Spirit Sowers.” Today we wrap up Galatians with Chapter 6.
Paul sums up his letter to the Galatian Churches in part with this statement:
“Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
Galatians 6:8-9 NIV
Some time ago we did a study called Feed the Dog. The study was written by our good friend Brock Gill - maybe you remember it. The premise was simple, “A man had two dogs, the one he fed the most grew the biggest!” That’s what Paul is saying to the Galatians and us. We each have a flesh / sin nature, and if we know Jesus - we have the Holy Spirit. If we sow to please the flesh, if we feed that dog - then we will reap the consequences of an empty life. But if we feed The Spirit led side of ourselves, or keep in step with the spirit - we’ll reap eternal life!
As a bonus we reap the fruit of the Spirit in this life as well. Who doesn’t want “Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control. These are the things that draw us to other people and other people to us. There’s a good reason for that - it’s who we were designed to be. That’s the GOOD stuff!
As Paul said last chapter, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”
Galatians 5:25 NIV
We can keep in step with The Spirit, feed that side of ourselves by daily meeting with Jesus, daily renewing our minds with The Word and being obedient to it! It won’t always be easy but the formula is simple.
Love you all! Dig in!
