Romans 4

Good Morning “saved only by faith.”   Check out Romans 4 today.

Paul addressing the question, “How were people saved before Jesus came?”  How could someone be saved by faith in Jesus and His blood shed on the cross for their sins when that had not happened yet?

God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow.  People before Jesus were saved by faith in God and Jesus to come, just like we today are saved by faith in Jesus.    They demonstrated their faith by obeying the law.  When they sinned, blood was required.  They demonstrated their faith by offering a blood sacrifice.  However; their animal sacrifices never took their sin away, they just temporarily covered their sin.  A once and for all sacrifice was required… they knew Jesus was coming.  Their obedience to the law wasn’t their salvation, it was the piece that demonstrated their faith.  Like we always say, their works didn’t save them - their works demonstrated they were saved.

Check it out:

“What then shall we say that Abraham, our forefather according to the flesh, discovered in this matter? If, in fact, Abraham was justified by works, he had something to boast about—but not before God. What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.””
‭‭Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We too demonstrate our faith when we are obedient the Word of God.  We too are required to demonstrate our Faith by offering a sacrifice - daily.   What?  Yup, remember Romans 12:1, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.”

They offered blood sacrifices in the form of animals - we offer ourselves as living sacrifices.   When we sin, blood is required.  But the blood of animals doesn’t cut it… never did.  Apart from receiving Jesus blood shed on the cross for our sins there is no adequate payment.

Love you all!  Dig in!
