Good Morning Footstep Followers. Check out Acts 14.
Paul and Barnabas continue spreading the Truth of Jesus - urging everyone they see to repent and turn to God. The Jews in turn continue to spread lies and turn the crowds against them. Jews and Gentiles alike plot to harm these guys - to stone them. Often they find out about it and head on to the next town. This time however they didn’t.
“Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead. But after the disciples had gathered around him, he got up and went back into the city. The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe. They preached the gospel in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. “We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,” they said.”
Acts 14:19-22 NIV
A few things hit me in this chapter:
- The number of towns they went to was incredible. This was their life! They were all about it!
- I’m struck by how offensive the Truth of Jesus was, and how easily people were swayed. Do you think it’s much different today? False teaching and ridiculous self serving gospels are accepted and spread like wildfire - while the Truth continues to be rejected!
- Paul gets stoned, apparently so badly they thought he was dead. Not only does he NOT quit, he gets up and goes back into the same city! Then gets right back at it!
We could learn a lot from the level of Paul’s commitment to the Gospel. Love you all!
