John 13

Good Morning Like Jesus Lovers.  Today John 13.

That night in the Upper Room, Jesus washes their feet, then breaks bread with them… all of them, even Judas.  I’ve commented before regarding the depth of Jesus’ love.  He knows He is about to be betrayed but still includes Judas.  I can’t wrap my mind around that.

Jesus spent a lot of time with the Disciples.  They did life together.  He showed them how to live and how to love.  He did miracles with them and through them - and cast our demons!  They fed and they loved, and risked their lives together.

Now the night of His arrest, He gives them a “New Command.” The Disciples had to be thinking, “What?  What more could He teach us.”  After washing their feet He tells them ““A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”” John‬ ‭13‬:‭34‬-‭35‬ ‭

Remember He just demonstrated the type of servant love He was talking about, and is about to go to the Cross for them.  (Us too) It’s in this way that He says - love each other as I have loved you!  As He continues His discourse, in just a couple chapters He’ll say, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”

Some of us would lay down our lives for our friends in death literally.  Like taking a bullet for instance.  But could we lay down our life every day, while still living - others before ourselves.  That was the model of Jesus.  You before me.  How can I help you?  What would you like to do?  Let me get that for you.  No, you have it!

That’s how He tells us to love… then they will know we are His followers - If we love one another like THAT.

Dig in guys!  Love ‘Em Like Jesus.
