Good Morning Mountain Movers today we are in Mark 11.
Who do you say He is? The disciples were asked this question back in Mark 8. Peter responded by saying that He was the Christ, Messiah - yet rebuked Jesus right after that as He explained His impending suffering. They understood He was the Messiah but hung on to their idea of what that meant.
Mark 11 opens with the Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem. The Jewish people had developed their own picture of what it would be like when the Messiah came. He would be their king, their conquerer - He would release them from their oppressors. So, naturally they welcomed and praised Jesus as He entered Jerusalem. “Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
Mark 11:10 NIV
How quickly they turned when He didn’t do what they had hoped - when He wasn’t the conqueror they wanted Him to be. He enters and immediately starts turning things upside down… literally.
Like the Jews we tend to make God into what we want Him to be. We pick and choose our way through Scripture turning the one True God into a “rainbows and bunnies, only do the things we like kind of god”. We skip over, or forget that in addition to love, He is also Justice, and Wrath. We deny the fact that He is sovereign and in control of ALL things! He is who He is, and thats the TRUTH. TRUTH doesn’t change because we want it to be something different in the moment or season. We can learn about Him, and even get to know Him personally and intimately through His Word, but we DO NOT get to make Him into what we want Him to be. Make no mistake He will return as conqueror, the question is what side will you be on.
I encourage you to dig in. Know Him for yourself, based on His Word - The TRUTH, not what you have heard or concocted Him to be!
Love you all!
