Job 22

Good Morning “Knowers of Enough Not to be Dangerous.”  Today we are in Job 22.

I must confess… to me, Eliphaz sounds like a resounding gong.  When he starts babbling once again, I have to purpose to really focus to even take in his words.  Why?  He may know some of Gods Word, but he has dangerously misapplied it to Jobs life when Job did nothing to deserve his rebuke.  His words become empty… In fact even the Truth he does speak, (God doesn’t NEED our help) falls flat.  We’re sick of reading it. Instead of encouraging Job he pushes him into further misery.

The same reigns true for some “so called” Christian’s.  We’ve all likely encountered Eliphaz type “followers”.  You know, those that know just enough Scripture to use it incorrectly.  Those who seek to elevate themselves by tearing others down instead of building them up (Hebrews 10:24).  Our ears, hearts and mind close off to even the Truth they may speak.  We MUST be students of The Word of God!  We have to be in It to properly apply It!

Eliphaz brings up some True points.  There is nothing we can do for God.  He doesn’t need our help.  He could do it ALL on His own.  He breathed it all into existence, brought water from a rock and food from the sky, He spoke through the bush, the donkey, and even more astounding - the wicked.  He won Israel’s battles with hail, and wind, and nothing at all… He sustains it ALL, controls it ALL, and is sovereign over ALL.  He OFFERS us the invitation to be part of it ALL, through Jesus.  In fact submitting to Him every day is the LEAST we can do (Romans 12.1). It’s our duty.

“So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’ “ Luke‬ ‭17‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Isaiah said it like this…
“All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags;…”

No, our good works do not profit God. He does not need us, yet He chooses to call, equip, and use us to build His kingdom. The calling, equipping, and kingdom are all supplied by Him, but the choice to participate is ours. And therein lies the love of God: while our righteousness is of no profit to Him, our faith brings Him pleasure.  That God seeks our worship, blesses our obedience, and asks us for our love . . . communicates that it is a real relationship which He offers us!

And the faithful should strive to hear Him proclaim, “Well done!”  (Mathew 25:21-23)

I wonder if I have sought to communicate His Grace — with such precision and finality — that I have eclipsed the reality of His heart!?!?!  Get a glimpse of it in Luke 13:34
