Good Morning “That Close to God.” Today we are in Job 16.
Eliphaz finishes his latest argument, attacking Jobs very character.
Job, with clear conscience reply’s with innocence as he has maintained all along . Job understood their implication well. In fact his relationship with God was so close, he even understood Jesus’ role as defense attourney while his friends accused him.
“Even now my witness is in heaven; my advocate is on high. My intercessor is my friend as my eyes pour out tears to God; on behalf of a man he pleads with God as one pleads for a friend.”
Job 16:19-21 NIV
This is not new. We’ve studied Jesus as intercessor on our behalf before (Romans 8:34, Hebrews 7:25, 1 John 2:1). But wait… Job lived a couple thousand years before Jesus came. How did he understand Him to be the intercessor when Jesus had not yet paid the price for sin? Right!!!
Some argue Job knew well - the prophesies given through those who came before him like the one found in Isaiah 53:12 “…For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.”
See John 8:56, Hebrews 11, especially vs. 13. Others argue he received divine revelation from God - in other words his relationship was THAT close.
Either way it’s clear, Job rested with clear conscience that by his faith he was right before God.
By faith, we too can have that “Job level” of confidence (Ephesians 2:8-9, Hebrews 10:10).
Love you all! Dig in!
