Good Morning “Holy Burden Carriers.” Today we are in Numbers 7.
Here, we’re getting a more detailed picture of the Dedication of The Temple. Temple work like church work requires some tools and equipment. We transport people and stuff on mission trips with church vans and trailers. They were collecting Oxen and Carts. We collect and receive offerings - they were collecting and receiving offerings.
Within any ministry there are items we use that make the job of ministry easier. We use books, resources, computers, and phones just to name a few.
As we read though the dispersion of all the oxen and carts, there is one clan left out. They did not receive oxen or a cart. Check it out…
“But Moses did not give any to the Kohathites, because they were to carry on their shoulders the holy things, for which they were responsible.” Numbers 7:9 NIV
What’s up with that? The Holy things were by no means light. What is God telling us? You might remember as we read about the manner in which the Holy Furnishings were to be constructed, that they were to have rings within the design or on a frame, and poles by which they would be carried. Why? If carts were available and there were oxen to pull them, why not put them on a cart? Seems excessive that the Kohathites had to carry them all by hand doesn’t it… or does it? We will soon see just how serious God was about this.
These were the Holiest of things. Maybe God is trying to send the message that there are some things within the ministry for which there is simply no short cut. No easy way. Nothing other than personal interaction and personal touch will do. We gotta get dirty.
What kinds of things within our ministries today fall into this category? Personal Discipleship, Mentoring, and Counseling come to mind. “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
Proverbs 27:17 NIV This process requires personal interaction.
Through Jesus, we are made Holy - By His blood. Holy things are to be handled personally. We each belong to each other (Romans 12:4-5).
Love you all! Dig in! Carry the burden for the ministry of Holy “things”.
