Good Morning “Set Apart For Good Work.” Today we are in Numbers 3.
Numbers 3 records the census of all of the Levite males 1 month and older - chosen and set apart. Each clan was called with a specific job to do as it relates to the care of the Tabernacle. The Levites were Royal Priesthood for His service. They were honored and committed to serve and glorify Him.
Once again. I ask… what does this have to do with us? EVERYTHING! Consider the parallel.
Jesus said:
“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.” John 6:44
We receive Jesus, are redeemed, only after being chosen or “drawn”. He draws us with good plans for us (Jeremiah 29:11) and work already prepared for us - much like the Levites.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Ephesians 2:10
We too, through Jesus, are a Royal Priesthood.
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9
We too should count it an honor to be chosen to serve Him, to proclaim His Name, regardless of the cost! The Levites understood. The Apostles got it too! They understood. They had a job to do and were going to serve Him by proclaiming the name of Jesus no matter the cost - even rejoicing in their suffering. After being flogged we read this…
“The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name. Day after day, in the temple courts and from house to house, they never stopped teaching and proclaiming the good news that Jesus is the Messiah.” Acts 5:41-42
The greatest honor in the world is being drawn to Jesus by the Father. Chosen, set apart, counted worthy to proclaim His name. Love you all! Dig in! Be bold!
