Good Morning “Gods Children”. Today we are in Leviticus 27.
God through Moses presented the 10 commandments which act as overriding principles - directing the world in how they should live. Those were not the only laws given however. In fact God gave more than 600 additional laws which serve as practical situational guides for living obediently in day to day life. The Law served to define sin and incite (stir up) sin, and in so doing demonstrate the tremendous need for a Savior.
With so many laws, how does one keep track. Which is the most important? A expert in The Law, a Pharisee, asked the very same question of Jesus - in an attempt to trip Him up. Check it out:
“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.””
Matthew 22:36-40 NIV
There you have it, summed up simply. All of the 613 laws fall under these. Each directly related to Loving God or Loving Others. If we Love Him, we’ll obey Him and thus honor Him - He will be glorified in and through us! His overflowing love in and through us make it possible for us to love others - Biblically.
If we truly love Him we will present ourselves to Him, as a living sacrifice (Romans 12:1). He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). When you receive Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior you become a child of God. (John 1:12-23). You are Holy, (set apart) unto the Lord. There is no reversing that! A child is his parent’s child forever - no matter what happens after.
“But nothing that a person owns and devotes (Hebrew word means irrevocable giving) to the Lord—whether a human being or an animal or family land—may be sold or redeemed; everything so devoted is most holy to the Lord.”
Leviticus 27:28 NIV
If you truly believe, you are a child of the living God! That never ends. Love you all! Dig in!
