Exodus 20

Good Morning “Tremblers With Godly Fear.”  Today we are in Exodus 20.

Having prepared the nation of Israel for what He was about to do, God now gives the Law to Moses.  When the people saw the mountain of smoke and heard the thunder and lightening and trumpet they trembled in fear.  Speak to us yourself they told Moses.  But don’t have God speak to us or we will die.

“Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.”  Exodus‬ ‭20‬:‭20‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Review: Approximately 237 times Scripture tells us NOT to fear. Literally we are not to fear ANYTHING - except 1 thing.  That thing is really person.  More than 300 times were told to fear God and each time the same word is used in the original.  It means trembling, pants wetting fear.

Here is one of the examples that should make it clear to us that fear of The Lord is a good thing!  It acts as a deterrent for us against sin.  The Exodus from Egypt, the plagues upon Egypt, the crossing of the Red Sea and scattering of the army of Pharaoh along the sea shore all preparation for this moment.  God was getting the people ready to hear, receive and OBEY His Law.

Paul puts it this way:
“Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭2‬:‭12‬-‭13‬ ‭NIV‬‬

God is Love.  But remember The father who loves his children disciplines his children.  His Perfect Holiness  demands He pour out His wrath on sin.  Praise Him, that He has given us a Savior!  His wrath poured out upon His own Son in our place!

Love you all!  Dig in!  Fear is a good thing!  It keeps us from making bad mistakes.  It should drive us to The Savior Jesus.
