Exodus 18

Good Morning “Heed-ers of Wise Advice.”  Today we are in Exodus 18.

Gods got big plans for each of us!  We know He created us, then draws us to Himself with good work already in mind for us to do.  “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

It stands to reason that He is preparing us even now for that work, even surrounding us with those to help accomplish it.  But, sometimes our help comes from the most unexpected sources.

Moses is drowning in a sea of “Good Work”.  He’s attempting to govern the Nation of Israel well.  Remember they are likely 2,000,000 or more strong, 600k men alone.  His Father-in-law Jethro comes for a visit, bringing with him, Moses wife and two sons.  Jethro is a man who believes in many gods.  This is evidenced by his reaction after Moses testifies about all God has done with Israel.  “Now I know that the Lord is greater than all other gods…” Exodus‬ ‭18‬:‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Did you catch that.  Jethro may now believe that God is the greatest, but he doesn’t seem to believe He is the ONLY!  Nevertheless, God is able to use Jethro.  He evaluates Moses’ work and gives him a wise, and even Biblical suggestion that not only saves his hide, but prompts Moses to charge those that he puts in positions of power to step up.

Never underestimate Gods ability to use even the unlikely in your life.  “Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭13‬:‭10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

The key is knowing The Word of God well enough to know if the advice you’re getting is Biblical.  If you’re unsure about wise advise you’re receiving, dig in and study harder.   Don’t forget you can always consult someone even wiser.

Love you all!  Dig in!
