Good Morning “Haters of Grumbling.” Today we are in Exodus 16.
The message of this chapter is simple - the God who rescued them / us will continue to provide for their / our needs! Why would He rescue them / us from certain death, only to leave us to fend for ourselves and starve. For them the rescue came in the form of salvation from both physical and spiritual death. We think most of our spiritual rescue. Because we sin, our default eternal destination is Hell. Rom. 3:23, 6:23 While still in the midst of sin God rescued us by the Blood of Jesus. Rom 5:8. We must respond however. Rom 10:9. If He has big plans for us, (Jer 29:11) then it stands to reason we must be alive to accomplish them.
Remember 3 days after crossing the nation was grumbling, complaining behind Moses back about water - boom God answers. Once again they are grumbling in this chapter now about a month in. Boom! God answers again.
He promises to provide for their daily needs knowing this was going to test them. In Matthew 6 He also promises to provide for our daily needs. “Needs” is the key word there. He knows what we truly “need” to grow up in more ways than one. Maybe what we need at the time is a little struggle to become more durable. James 1
As you study this chapter see if you can count the ways Israel failed. Imagine areas in your own life where you stumble similarly.
The “grumbling” over mundane physical needs is just a symptom of a larger problem. The nation as a whole may believe… but the individuals are struggling with their faith. Like we said yesterday - they were paying too much attention to what they “saw” around them.
Why does God who is all knowing test us if He already knows the full condition of our hearts? Answer… The test is for us! As we fail, the true condition of our hearts is brought into the light. As we see it, we then have an opportunity to repent and grow. He’s helping us understand parts of us we don’t even see.
Love you all! Dig in!
