Genesis 28

Good Morning “In Gods Hands”.  Today we are in Genesis 28.

Jacob gets the blessing.  That was Gods Will the whole the time.  The fulfillment of that through Jacob’s deception, even rocks Isaac when he is reminded THAT was always the plan of God.  Gen 27:33 says Isaac “trembled violently”, when it hit him.  Was his trembling out of anger or out of fear of God since he was confronted with the fulfilled plan of God?  All this despite Isaac and Esau’s best efforts to hijack the blessing for Esau.  With Esau threatening to kill Jacob it’s decided that Jacob would flee to Laban and find a wife from his daughters.

Isaac calls Jacob and blessed him on his way - seemingly demonstrating some repentance here.

Jacob, in obedience, heads out on his 450 mile journey.  Meanwhile Esau gives us another picture of his true character.

While on the journey Jacob stops for the night.  He pulls up some rock and goes to sleep.  Contrary to the NIV translation - he’s not using the rock as a pillow.  The original language puts the rock beside his head.  Why?  Out of fear he’s got a weapon close by.  Here God comes to Jacob personally, for the first time, through a dream.  God reiterated His promises but adds something unique for Jacob.

“I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”” Genesis‬ ‭28‬:‭15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Jacob is still growing and learning, and seemingly kind of misses the point when he awakes and determines “God must be in this place.”  He was afraid and declared this is the house of God.  Yes, God dwells there… and everywhere.  In fact, that WAS Gods point.  “Wherever you go.”

He holds us in His hand in a similar way!  Nothing can touch us outside of Gods control.  He is sovereign!  Psalm 23:4  “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

Love you all!  Dig in!  Do not fear!!
