Good Morning “Worshipers, Those Who Revere God.” Today we are in chapter 11. It has been said that chapter 11 is the most challenging in all of Revelation. Most all of chapter 11 is part of the “pause” or “parenthesis” we started last chapter and will continue through 14. That is to say, this is all happening while the first part of the Tribulation is going on. It’s not a continuation of the timeline, it’s almost a “by the way”, this was also happening.
John moves from observer to participant. “I was given a reed like a measuring rod and was told, “Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, with its worshipers.” Revelation 11:1 NIV
The Temple will be rebuilt in Jerusalem. (Side note - the permits for the Temple construction have already been granted - you can Google that). John is told to measure it and its worshipers. God will measure the worship of His people. What would he find if He measured our worship? Likely He already does.
“And I will appoint my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.”” Revelation 11:3 NIV
Some argue that these Two Witnesses are Elijah and Enoch back - since they never died. Others say Elijah and Moses. The miracles ascribed to the two witnesses parallel the miracles ascribed to Elijah and Moses Ex 7:20, 8:1-12:29, I Kings 17:1, 18:41-45. We must be careful in naming these witnesses however; as God never does.
They will prophesy and witness for 3 1/2 years. Since we are at the midpoint, and the 7th Trumpet has not been blown, we conclude it is the 1st 3 1/2 years of the Tribulation. They Witness - Tell people about Jesus, and Prophecy. They have incredible power to eliminate anyone who try’s to harm them.
When they have finished, the beast will come up from the pit, attack, and kill them. The inhabitants of the earth will celebrate - even exchanging gifts and refuse to bury them.
You gotta read the chapter to see what happens next with them. Suffice it to say God is more POWERFUL!
The 7th Trumpet is sounded and we get a sort of fast forward “screenshot” of all that is accomplished after. “The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said: “The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah, and he will reign for ever and ever.””
Revelation 11:15 NIV
Much is yet to happen in the timeline before we get to to the picture above. We’ll see in upcoming chapters.
Love you all. Dig in! Soak it up! Worship Him in everything!
