3 John

Good Morning “Doers of What You’ve Been Told.”  Today we are in 3 John.

John wrote a letter to one of the church’s within the community he cared for introducing and commending some fellow Christians he was sending to them.  One of their leaders named Diotrephes did not recognize Johns authority and so refused to accommodate them.  He threatened to throw anyone out of the church who did.  Despite the threat, a man named Gaius took them into his own home and showed them hospitality.  3 John is a letter of thanks to Gaius.

“Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers and sisters, even though they are strangers to you. They have told the church about your love. Please send them on their way in a manner that honors God.” 3 John‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

John not only thanked Gaius but informed him that word about his faithfulness was spreading.  Do you ever wonder what kind of testimony you leave behind?  We are a world of people who talk about each other.  When they talk about you is it good or bad?

Gaius was just doing what he knew he should do.  “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.” Hebrews 13:2  In Romans 12 Paul reminds us to practice, even pursue hospitality.

Scripture teaches us to live self controlled lives so far from the line, “above reproach”, that those who oppose us will have nothing negative to say. Prov 22:1 tells us a good name is more desirable than great riches.

What’s the secret to having a good name, a good reputation?  Live a life of integrity.  Let your yes be yes and your no be no.  Put others before your self.  In short - live out The Word.  Just do what He’s already told us to do.  Live your life in such a way that when someone starts a negative rumor about you people laugh… “them, do that… no way!”

Love you all!  Dig in here and soak up what John says.
