1 John 3

Good Morning “Children of God.”  Today 1 John 3.

We are all someone’s child.  We never cease being their child even if there’s trouble in the relationship.   Here John continues with his reminders that we are children of God.

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!…”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Nothing in all of creation can separate us from His Love.  We are part of creation.  Let that sink in.

As parents we have expectations regarding how our children conduct themselves.  Expectations and rules that will hopefully guide and protect them - giving them the best shot at success.  God has those expectations and rules as well.

“Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.” 1 John‬ ‭3‬:‭4‬-‭6‬ NIV

We all sin, but He demonstrated His incredible Love for us by providing a means of reconciliation through Jesus.  Because of our sin we deserve death - separation from Him.  It’s what we’ve truly earned.  It’s what we deserve. In His love He gave us mercy and Grace instead.

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” 1 John‬ ‭3‬:‭7‬, ‭16‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Romans 12:1 reminds us that in response to this mercy it’s reasonable for us to offer ourselves to Him as a daily sacrifice.

“And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭3‬:‭23‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Love, love, love.  It’s all about love.  He loves us so that as His love overflows through us - we can love others.  We love because He first loved us!

Dig in guys!  I just hit a few high points here.  I’m telling you, there is so much in this chapter.  Love you all!
