Good Morning “Light Walkers”. Today we start 1 John 1.
This letter, commonly attributed to the Apostle John, was written to a group of believers - some who had abandoned their faith as it was originally taught to them. Greeks first believed that the flesh was evil and only the Spirit was good. They couldn’t reconcile the fact that Jesus came in the flesh. As a result their lives turned immoral, yet they still claimed they “knew” God. An eyewitness to Jesus claims (John) wrote to this community in an effort to set them straight.
Our God is all light! He is the light! No darkness in Him. Do we see that kind of a distinctive line between dark and light in our world? It seems blurred to me. What about you? Good and evil get confused. But there is no confusing the two in Scripture. No grey on those pages… only black and white within them. It’s gotta be the standard we follow.
We might be able to convince ourselves, or even those around us that we are “righteous” - got it figured out… but remember, He is not fooled. He sees our heart and wants it all - humbly submitted to Him.
“If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. “ 1 John 1:6-8 NIV
He loves us - more than we can fathom. To demonstrate that Love, Jesus went to The Cross to pay for our sins. A price we could never pay on our own! As a result…
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.”
1 John 1:6-10 NIV
Be humble. Keep your account short. Practice daily the process of coming before Him confessing your sin and asking forgiveness! He is faithful! Are we humble?
Love you all! Dig in! If you have no relationship with Jesus there is no time like the present! It begins with confessing your sin, and excepting forgiveness - then repenting or turning away from that sin. Reach out if you’d like help getting started.
