Good Morning “Obedient Livers of Your Faith.” Today we are in James 2.
Have you ever wondered why movie stars, pro athletes or the extremely wealthy somehow seem to get a political, even a humanitarian voice in our country? Why does their opinion matter to us? Or does it?
Who in our society, typically gets our automatic respect and honor, and who gets shunned? What about at your job or school? Is it the same at church? Isn’t it often those that are most successful with the most stuff, that somehow automatically get honor? Why is that? Do we somehow think some will rub off if we get close enough?
Does that kind of thinking move into other areas? Who deserves Jesus? Do any of us really deserve Jesus? Hint… the answer is no. Do you ever find yourselves mentally picking and choosing who “deserves” salvation and who doesn’t? Who God can use, and who He couldn’t?
It’s not a new problem. James addresses it in this chapter. “Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him?”
James 2:5
We should be different in that way. James goes on to remind us yet again that “true belief” always results in action. The writer of Hebrews reminded us that Faith is the demonstration of our “Belief” - Belief in action. James puts it this way.
“In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.” James 2:17, 19
Head knowledge demonstrates nothing. True faith is observable. We should be able to see each others Faith as we live it out. Remember Jesus’ words…
“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35
Love you all! I just scratched the surface here. There is much to study in this chapter - dig in!
