Hebrews 1

Good Morning “Greater Than The Angels.”  Today we dig into Hebrews with Chapter 1.

Although we aren’t sure who wrote Hebrews, by the text we can determine it was likely written to Jews.  Some appear to be believers but were danger of falling away, others were not believing.  Some of the Hebrews were twisted up in their thinking, believing that angels were equal to Jesus - even some suggesting the Archangel Micheal is more powerful.

The writer spends the bulk of the first chapter making sure the reader understands Jesus is far superior to the angels.

“For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father”? Or again, “I will be his Father, and he will be my Son”? And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, “Let all God’s angels worship him.”  Hebrews‬ ‭1‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What’s more, as we get to the end of the chapter he makes clear that even we, made in Gods image, are superior to the angels.  “Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?” Hebrews‬ ‭1‬:‭14‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Today some still believe we become angels when we die - we “get our angel wings”.  Our loved ones become our Guardian Angels.  To get there, some have misinterpreted passages such as  Mark 12:25 “When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven”.

The context of this passage is marriage and is simply talking about husbands and wives at the resurrection.  Marks reference to angels is only to make the point that we will NOT be married in heaven.

We are created in the image of God - Angels are not.  We are Co-Heirs with Jesus - Angels are not.  They are forever locked in their choice - we are not. Demons, the Angels that rebelled with Satan, are not offered forgiveness and Salvation through Jesus - we ARE.  Becoming an Angel would be a step down and simply isn’t The Truth of Scripture.

Guardian Angels - Yes!  Demons are Angels - Yes! We become Angels - no… Thank God!

Love you all!  Dig in!
