1 Timothy 1

Good Morning “Recognizers of False Teaching.”  Today we begin 1 Timothy with Chapter 1.

This distorting the Truth thing was wide spread - as it is today.  The leaders of the Ephesian Church were distorting, twisting, and adding to the True Gospel Paul had preached.  Paul sends Timothy in to clean it up.  This is Paul’s 1st letter to Timothy while he is there.  He gets right to it…

“As I urged you when I went into Macedonia, stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines any longer or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God’s work—which is by faith. The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. Some have departed from these and have turned to meaningless talk. They want to be teachers of the law, but they do not know what they are talking about or what they so confidently affirm.”
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬-‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Are you a student of the Word of God?  Are you getting there?  With each new letter or writing from Paul it becomes more apparent that this false teaching, twisting thing infected just about everybody.  It shouldn’t come as a surprise to us frankly - it’s what Satan did in the garden.  He’s not creative.  His tactics are the same.  In Genesis 3 God said don’t eat from that one tree, and Satan immediately distorts what God said.  “He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭1‬ ‭NIV‬‬.

Did you catch it?  God said one tree is bad, Satan says ANY tree, immediately making Gods command seem unreasonable.  Distorting seems to be contagious because then Eve answers no we can eat from any tree  “but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ ” Genesis‬ ‭3‬:‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬. Did you catch that?  God never said DON’T TOUCH it!  Eve added that.

Do you know The Word of God well enough to recognize false teaching?  As wide spread as it is, we better get there.

We are called to share it… share what?  We gotta know it well if we’re gonna share it!

Dive in!  Dig in!  Know it!  Love you all!
