Ephesians 5

Good Morning “Children of the Light.”  Like Eph 4, Ephesians 5 is jam packed with application for us.  Soak it up!

We are accustomed to looking “up to” earthly examples, following in others footsteps, purposing to be like… well, you fill in the blank.  True, some individuals are perhaps good examples to be followed, but ultimately the bar is much higher.  Checkout what Paul says.

“Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭

Living selflessly!  For others.  Paul goes on to elaborate a bit more on what that looks like - Not a hint of immorality, impurity or greed.  Pretty tough to live without a hint in the over sexualized, sin filled, materialistic  world we live in.  Tough, maybe, but no longer impossible.  Through the Holy Spirit who lives in us, we have the Power!

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬-‭11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We often make the mistake of believing we can have our cake and eat it too.  We can walk with one foot in the world and one in obedience to God.  It simply doesn’t work that way.  “Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness.”  Oooo, that sounds ominous.  He defined “fruitless deeds of darkness early in this chapter.  Some of what that includes are things we stumble with daily.  Remember idolatry is anything we put before God.

It’s much easier to fall when we’re constantly walking the line.  Way harder when we never get close to the line.  “Have nothing to do with…”. He doesn’t say, have a little to do with, or… as long as it’s in moderation…

Play with fire long enough you are going to get burned.   Statistically you can’t say no to the same thing more than 10 times.  Eventually your no turns to yes.  Why are we so consumed with things that leave us empty when we already have the only thing that truly satisfies?

No more one foot it!  All in! Love you all!
