2 Corinthians 12

Good Morning “Sufficient Grace Receivers.”  Today we dive into 2 Corinthians 12.

Paul speaks of his near death experience.  When did this happen?  Who knows… maybe it was when he was stoned and believed to me dead, or one of his many other near death persecution’s.  Nevertheless - Paul saw and heard things that no man is permitted to tell.  To keep him humble and close to God, he was given a thorn in his flesh.  Some say it was spiritual, some say an affliction… the point is it was something that kept him humble daily.

Paul’s situation kinda blows the “God doesn’t do bad stuff,” idea straight out the window.  True God does not do bad, or evil - it is outside of His character and therefore impossible.  However; perspective is EVERYTHING.  Things we deem bad are often the best thing for us - including suffering.  Suffering spurs growth and strength, draws us in close to God, keeps us humble, and brings blessing.  Never forget His ways are not our ways and He’s way smarter than we are!

It’s clear Paul’s affliction is the work of God in this passage.  Paul goes to the source for relief.

“Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” 2 Corinthians‬ ‭12‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Through suffering Paul gets to experience more of the Grace of God.  How do we ever get to see Gods sustaining power in our lives, if we never need something extra.  How do we know He is faithful to answer prayers unless we are on our knees.  He’s still in the business of doing miracles but how will we ever see one unless we need one?  Suffering is a valuable piece in us growing up in Him!  Don’t despise it!

Love you all!  Dig in!
