Good Morning “Job Observers”. Today we are in Job 13.
It’s easy to begin to gloss over Jobs lamenting and his friends accusing. More of the same, I get it. Stay interested though, look deeply, many lessons and reminders lie in these pages.
Job clearly understands who did this to him. I think it’s interesting how far we’ve come from recognizing Gods sovereign hand in all things. Job is not confused. Though his degree of testing is unimaginable, he never waivers from understanding that God is the administer of it. The idea that God does the good, and Satan does the bad… well we just don’t find that in Scripture.
“But I desire to speak to the Almighty and to argue my case with God.” Job 13:3 NIV
“Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him; I will surely defend my ways to his face.”
Job 13:15 NIV
Job is confident in his character. He knows that he is a man of God. It seems extraordinary to me - that Job really doesn’t even wonder… “Maybe there is some sin in me?” He is steadfast. Consider how devoted one has to be to look in the mirror and not even wonder. I guess that’s why God says Job is blameless and upright. Oh that we might desire that level of righteousness. Jesus kinda told us we should “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” Matthew 5:48 NIV
Job understood and demonstrated that we should all be quick to listen and slow to speak (James1:19). His friends rushed in without evidence, and direction from God. It appears they may have tried to interrupt (Job 13:13) while Job in turn listens carefully.
“If only you would be altogether silent! For you, that would be wisdom.”
Job 13:5 NIV
“Will you show him partiality? Will you argue the case for God? Would it turn out well if he examined you? Could you deceive him as you might deceive a mortal?” Job 13:8-9 NIV
Speaking incorrectly on behalf of God brings judgment (Titus 3:9-10). Even in his misery Job warns his friends. Yet another reminder that should be sure we know what we’re talking about.
These principles develop into character qualities only by continued Scripture study, and time with the Lord. We begin to look and act like those we hang with. Hang with Jesus most.
Love you all! Dig in.
