Nehemiah 11

Good Morning “Chosen”.  Today we are in Nehemiah 11.

Who would populate the rebuilt city of Jerusalem?  God would decide, as each tribe gave a tithe of people.  10% of each tribe would populate the city.  The rest would remain in the surrounding cities.  God chose them - as the nation cast lots. He chose.   Remember “casting lots” was an acceptable and efficient way of determining the will of God prior to the coming of the Holy Spirit the 2nd day of Pentecost (Acts 2).

Soak in the brilliance of this chapter.  As always, it’s more than just a list of names.  By populating the city with people from every tribe EVERYONE had a vested interest in the protection of the Holy City and no one tribe could claim it as their own.  Furthermore God chose people bent on Holiness to populate the city - for obvious reasons. Is that cool or what?

Have you ever wondered why our nations capital is located in Washington DC?  If you’ve ever looked at a map or taken a geography class, you’re likely aware DC is not in Washington at all.  In fact it’s not even a state - that any state could claim home of the President and our government.  No the District of Columbia is exactly that - A Federal District established to house our government.

God still chooses who will populate His Church.  “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day.” John 6:44

If you know Jesus, rest assured you were hand selected with a purpose by His Grace (Ephesians 2:8-10).  It would seem silly not to fulfill that purpose wouldn’t it?

Love you all!  Dig in!
