Good Morning “Those Who Seek Qualified Leaders.” Today we are in 2 Chronicles 21.
Jehoshaphat had more than a handful of sons. Jehoram murders all of his brothers except the youngest who escaped. According to verse 13 they were all better than Jehoram.
“Their father had given them many gifts of silver and gold and articles of value, as well as fortified cities in Judah, but he had given the kingdom to Jehoram because he was his firstborn son.” 2 Chronicles 21:3
“Because he was the firstborn son.” This was truly the custom. Customs and patterns are not necessarily always good. We see God break this “firstborn custom” with Jacob and Esau among other others.
Jesus condemns the Pharisees for exchanging Gods commands for their customs / traditions in Mark 7:8 “You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”
God has always been clear. Those who lead, should be men of God who are committed to Him and His commands and their lives should reflect that. Ultimately the people should be sensitive to Gods choosing and appointing. (Exodus 18:21-22, Deuteronomy 16:20, Deuteronomy 17:14).
Same same today. Gods word is clear and applies to everyone from Student Leaders, Parents, Grand Parents to School Board Member’s, City, State and Federal Leaders - Even the President.
Check out Gods qualifications for “Overseers”: (1 Timothy 3,Titus 1:5-9). Yes Paul is referring to Church Elders / Leaders here, but it’s not much of a reach to assume anyone in position of leadership should be worthy of being followed. Popularity, nepotism, wealth, should not be the considering factors. We also should not choose based on who feeds our flesh.
